Word Count

Yes, we know that word count is irrelevant . . . the story is not complete until everything has been told. But it's nice to have some guidelines. Some rails to lean on when you're feeling your way around. Especially when you are writing by pure instincts.

Here are some websites that list word counts for published books. There's treasure out there people and plenty of it. So go ahead and dive in.

I agree that word count isn't as important as the story but it is to have a rough idea of how long you want it to be. If it's a novel you can take things slower and let the reader slowly emerse themselves into the world of the book but if it's a short story you have to grab them and get their attention quickly and hold it to the end.
