February Movies


30. The Band's Visit - although slow paced interesting to see another culture
When the Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra flies from Egypt to Israel to perform at the opening of an Arab culture center, they are left stranded at the airport. After obtaining the wrong information all eight members are left stranded in a quiet desert town far from their intended destination. Tired, hungry, and confused, they find shelter at a restaurant run by the pretty but brash Dina. It's clear that Dina is bored with her lonely life, so she talks Tewfiq into letting the band stay over for the night

32. Remember the Daze - junkies/druggies as protagonists = dumb uninteresting dialogue

33. Julia 2008 - great story, great acting, too long
Tilda Swinton stars in this intense drama as Julia, an aging alcoholic who spends her nights drinking in the company of strangers, and her days making excuses for herself. We think she has hit rock bottom after getting fired but then she gets mixed up in a plan to kidnap a boy for 2 million dollars.
34. Richard Pryor 1982 Stand Up - although not as funny as his other stand up movies its loved for his brutal honesty.

35. Everybody's Fine - good
A widower who realized his only connection to his family was through his wife sets off on an impromptu road trip to reunite with each of his grown children.

36. Flashdance - yuck, the only thing good is the soundtrack
A Pittsburgh woman with two jobs as a welder and an exotic dancer wants to get into ballet school.

37.Caramel - really enjoyed it ~ go see it
In Beirut, five women meet up at a beauty salon where they discuss subjects like sex, men, and motherhood. It is a place for them to openly discuss their thoughts and confess private sins and pleasures: Layale is in love with a married man. Nisrine is a Muslim and getting married - but she isn't a virgin. Rima finds herself attracted to women and can't understand why. Jamale is not allowing herself to grow old while Rose is looking after her sister instead of herself.

39. See Jane Date - over the top romcom
A single girl living in New York tries to impress her high school nemesis by inventing the perfect boyfriend as her date to an impending wedding, then embarks on a string of blind dates to fill the bill.

40. CasaBlanca (1942) - fantastic, each scene moves the plot forward & leaves me wanting to know whats next.
American romantic drama film directed by Michael Curtiz, starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Set during World War II, it focuses on a man torn between love and virtue. He must choose between his love for a woman and helping her and her Resistance leader husband escape from the Vichy-controlled Moroccan city of Casablanca to continue his fight against the Nazis.


41. "The Class" ("Entre les Murs")French 2008 - no arc, the film ends as it begins kinda boring.
Directed by Laurent Cantet, the film follows a year in the life of a French schoolteacher working in a tough multi-cultural section of Paris. Based on a best-selling autobiographical novel by François Begaudeau, who plays the main character.

45. El Cantante (2006) - liked, fantastic soundtrack
El Cantante is the dramatic-biography of Puerto Rican salsa pioneer Hector Lavoe. The film follows Lavoe's (Anthony) passionate relationship with Puchi (Lopez) and his skyrocket to international fame. But even when he as it all, Lavoe is unable to escape the allure of drugs and his personal pain. Told from the viewpoint of Puchi so we didnt see how he accomplished his success.
46. Casi Divas (2008) i loved this movie, fabulous, see it.

The movie is a coming-of-age drama about a boy growing up in Astoria, N.Y., during the 1980s. As his friends end up dead, on drugs or in prison, he comes to believe he has been saved from their fate by various so-called saints.

49. Valentines Day - aight, a bunch of sob stories
Intertwining couples and singles in Los Angeles break-up and make-up based on the pressures and expectations of Valentine's Day
50. Elegy - great story, great acting, really liked this story about being afraid of getting old.
